چکیده

Use of drip, or trickle, irrigation in agriculture has increased rapidly during the past 20 years. In 1970 approximately 50,000 ha in the United States were under drip irrigation, by 1985 the area had increased to over 300,000 ha (6). Irrigation has been used to deliver fertilizers and pesticides (8,9,14,18,27,28), and there are increasing numbers of studies on the application of nematicidal compounds or other pest control agents via drip irrigation (15,12,13,16,19,20,22,24,25,32). Most of these reports, however, do not detail the mechanical considerations of delivering nematicides through drip irrigation. In the following we discuss application of nematicides through drip irrigation, ment ioning potential problems and considerations that are important for successful application. We focus on the use of drip irrigation for delivery of nematicides in research, and refer to our research experience with nematicides delivered by drip irrigation systems in Hawaiian pineapple. The technical (soil physics and engineering) aspects of drip irrigation are not discussed here, as reviews on these topics are available (6,8,9,21,29). Concepts and history: Drip or trickle irrigation delivers relatively low volumes of

Management of Pratylenchus penetrans on Oriental Lilies with Drip and Foliar-applied Nematicides.

Pratylenchus penetrans is a pest for producers of oriental lilies in northern California. Concern over groundwater contamination from 1,2-dichloropropane following shank injections of 1,3-dichloropropene-l,2-dichloropropane mixture and granular applications of aldicarb prompted testing for alternative methods of controlling P. penetrans. In field trials, nematicides applied by drip irrigation (...

A simple, inexpensive, portable apparatus for injecting experimental chemicals in drip irrigation systems.

The loss of 1,2-dibromo-3-chloropropane (DBCP) as a postplant nematicide created a serious void in nematode protection for crops nationwide. An acceptable replacement for DBCP is needed, especially on susceptible perennials such as grapes, Vitis vinifera L. Phases of our postplant nematicide research were conducted in commercial vineyards where nematode disease existed on established vines wate...

Effects of different irrigation methods and hormone application on water use efficiency, yield, and leaf biochemical traits in potato

Investigation of different irrigation methods on plants is necessary due to limited water resources and the increasing need for food products. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of sprinkler and drip irrigation systems and hormones on morphological and physiological characteristics of potato. Treatments included sprinkler and drip irrigation systems and hormones (gibbere...

Management Options for Pratylenchus penetrans in Easter Lily.

Alternatives to reduce or modify nematicide use for minimizing groundwater contamination in Easter lily were explored in two field trials. Alternatives to standard 1,3-dichloropropene (1,3-D) plus phorate injection in the first trial were: (i) delaying applications until after winter rains, (ii) removing roots from planting stock, (iii) 1,3-D via drip irrigation, (iv) a chitin-urea soil amendme...

Pineapple nematode research in hawaii: past, present, and future.

The first written record of pineapple in Hawaii is from 1813. In 1901 commercial pineapple production started, and in 1924 the Experiment Station for pineapple research was established. Nematode-related problems were recognized in the early 1900s by N. A. Cobb. From 1920 to approximately 1945 nematode management in Hawaiian pineapple was based on fallowing and crop rotation. During the 1920s an...
